Used Care.com to find work? Your refund is in the mail
....And a site for nurses and nurses aides...
The Federal Trade Commission is sending $8.1 million in refunds to some 197,201 consumers, who it believes were mislead by Care.com, a platform that helps workers find babysitting, elder care and dog sitting work.
The agency maintains that Care inflated the chances of getting work, made false claims about how much you could earn, and made it tough for caregivers to cancel their subscriptions to the service. As the result of a settlement with the company, the FTC is likely to send each caregiver who signed up between 2019 and 2022 a $42 check.
Notably, Care has not admitted to wrongdoing but settled the case for $8.5 million. If you think you’re due a payment, but haven’t received one, you can contact the FTC or the settlement administrator, Epiq Systems, at 888-867-6151. The FTC never requires people to pay money or provide account information to get a refund.
